McKinstry banned from darts for eight years due to match fixing

Kyle McKinstry has been banned from darts for eight years after match fixing during the Icons of Darts League which took place during lockdown.

McKinstry and Nijman were suspected of match fixing back in August after alarm bells were triggered due to suspicious betting behaviour being flagged by the International Betting Integrity Association.

For 'The Village Man', he was flagged for his match against David Evans on April 30 as well as his match versus Nijman, although the latter wasn't involved in this instance.

At the time while Nijman admitted to the offence straight away and has now been suspended for five years with half of that possibly suspended, McKinstry initially didn't hand telephone records over. But a few short weeks later, he admitting match-fixing and parted company with his management, MDA Promotions.

He took to Facebook on Wednesday evening to reveal that he has now been banned for eight years:

"I am just writing this to let everyone know I have been banned from the sport I love (darts) for 8 years. I made a bad error of judgment at a bad time in my life. This is something I will regret for the rest of my life and I hope this Is a catalyst for anyone else in a bad position. I am going to work hard and keep my head down and hopefully put this behind me and come back bigger and stronger."
