Meikle claims first PDC World Darts Championship win over debutant Schmutzler

Ryan Meikle finally has his first victory on the PDC World Darts Championship stage after coasting past Fabian Schmutzler in a 3-0 sets victory.

Meikle will now get a Suffolk derby against Peter Wright in the second round after seeing off the second youngster qualifier in history at the Ally Pally.

Schmutzler missed double eight for an opening break and was punished by Meikle who hit double four to hit the front. He followed that up with an 80 checkout to break throw.

The German hit a first 180 but Meikle hit double 10 to claim the set. His dominance continued as he claimed a break to begin the second set.

Schmutzler finally got a leg on the board breaking back immediately as he looked to mount a mini comeback.

The breaks continued as he hit a 180 and 41 checkout with Schmutzler's pressurised 180 not enough.

Meikle finally got over the line to go two sets up, he missed multiple match darts when it looked like he was going to win at a canter.

He missed another match dart from 109 and Schmutzler hit double 20. Meikle finally got over the line from there on double five.
