Meulenkamp sweeps aside out of sorts Ashton to set up Smith clash at PDC World Darts Championship

While both players were not at their best, Ron Meulenkamp has swept aside Lisa Ashton in a 3-0 sets win to book his place in the second round at the 2021/22 PDC World Darts Championship.

Meulenkamp will now face Michael Smith in the second round after Ashton only averaged 73 and will not get her first win on the Ally Pally stage.

Meulenkamp and Ashton shared the legs to begin the tie with a roar coming from the crowd when the latter hit double four.

She missed the opportunity to break throw and Meulenkamp held to go one away from the opening set.

He missed bull for a 170 checkout but with Ashton not on a finish, 'The Bomb' pinned double eight for the set.

A 177 and an 89 checkout saw Meulenkamp break to begin the second set. He consolidated to go one away from a two set lead.

Ashton missed double 16 for a hold and Meulenkamp stumbled across the line for a two sets lead.

He missed the bull for an opening hold but Ashton missed double 18 for a 116 and he returned for the lead.

Meulenkamp missed multiple darts to go one away from the win and Ashton added a second leg to make it 1-1.

A 90 checkout saw him go one away from victory. He only needed one dart to claim victory pinning double 20.
