Ron Meulenkamp won in the first round of the
PDC World Darts Championship against
Boris Krcmar (3-1) on Thursday . However, it did not happen smoothly for the Dutchman, who seemed to be very annoyed on stage.
''I was annoyed with myself at first. The last few days I have been practicing wonderfully. The first dart landed exactly where I wanted it every time. But it is not the same on stage and then you need to adapt. I let the first set go, I did not want it to disturb me. So I stayed on stage (during the break), because I had to find that range and at some point I had it. So I was mainly struggling with myself.''
However Meulenkamp was also annoyed with his opponent Krcmar. ''He was clicking with his darts. That in itself is not very bad, but it is a thing when you hear everything in the room (because there are no fans inside). Then you can do two things. Either you start complaining afterwards or you immediately say something about it. Maybe that's my experience, that I immediately ask if something can be done about it. George (Noble, the referee) asked nicely if he could stop and he said yes. That was perfect.''
Meulenkamp will play fellow Dutchman Vincent van der Voort in the second round. He's determined to show improvement. ''I'm very happy I have played already so I know how it feels to stay on the stage there. I promise everyone I will play a lot better in my next match.''
