Michael Smith will face either Ross Smith or Chris Dobey in the final of the 2022
European Championship in another massive chance for 'Bully Boy' to finally claim his maiden major title.
This after Smith surged past Dirk van Duijvenbode in an 11-7 win with a 104.21 average, seven 180's and 50% on the doubles. Is it finally the time for the St Helens ace?
To start the tie, he went 2-0 up before Van Duijvenbode kept pace with a 124 checkout on the bull for 2-2 and it was three legs on the spin as Van Duijvenbode moved ahead at 3-2.
But Smith surged into the sublime with a 136 checkout for three consecutive legs to go 5-3 ahead. Van Duijvenbode responded with a 126 for his own flourish at 6-4 down.
But an 11-dart hold and a break in the form of an 87 checkout for another 11-darter saw 'Bully Boy' go 8-5 ahead. Make that a hat-trick as he scored another 11-darter to go 9-5 up and surge towards the finishing line.
Van Duijvenbode looked for one final push at 9-6 with a 124 checkout on the bull but superb Smith survived a dart to break before hitting double 10 to get over the line.
