Luke Littler and
Michael Smith have secured important victories to open the final night of the 2024
Premier League Darts league phase. The victories had big ramifications for both players ahead of the playoffs as we now know the four men who will compete for the Premier League Darts title.
For Littler, a 6-4 victory over
Peter Wright secures the 17-year-old top spot in the league table, an impressive feat on his Premier League Darts debut. The highlight of Littler's performance coming via a stunning 120 checkout, finished off in Jose de Sousa-style with three double tops. For Wright meanwhile, this latest loss has consigned the former world champion to the wooden spoon in a disappointing showing that saw just three wins all year.
In a straight shootout for the final spot in the top-4, good friends Michael Smith and
Nathan Aspinall went to battle. With both players starting strongly, things were nip and tuck early doors with holds of throw exchanged. As the finish line neared and the tension increased, both players continued to hold firm on their respective throws with Smith notably pinning a 136 finish for a 4-3 lead. In the 8th leg, ‘BullyBoy’ again fired in a ton-plus checkout to break throw with a 132 on double 16. When Aspinall couldn't save his skin with a 170 in the next leg, Smith nailed double 12 at the second time of asking to seal his spot in finals night.
