Michael van Gerwen is the big miss this week in Bahrain with the recent World Championship finalist not able to play in the Middle East at the opening World Series of Darts due to a pre planned holiday.

One that he continues to share snaps of on his social media. He is currently over in Thailand before he heads home next weekend to play in the Dutch Darts Masters.

He shared images of him and his family on the famous Pig Island. An island known as Koh Madsum, it is ran by one man who runs a small beach bar on the island with his wife and family and sees a community of pigs as the name suggests living on the secluded island.

"The treasure hunt brought us to Pig Island. Thailand keeps surprising us," he wrote after previously sharing images most days before of his family on the beach as well as in the pool before heading to Pig Island.

Van Gerwen has a busy time when he returns home as he will play in Den Bosch then head to Milton Keynes for the Winmau World Masters. Then it is Premier League duty for him so he is spending his time wisely.

His close friend Vincent van der Voort also agreed with the rest element of the next few weeks.

"He is going on vacation, then also just a dartboard will come to him by sponsor Winmau. If he's wise he's going to play an hour once every two days," Van der Voort stated in the podcast Darts Draait Door. "If you don't do anything for two weeks now, you're back to square one. Normally you can easily stop for two weeks, but not now. It's rebuilding all over again. It just wasn't good enough before that."

''Get some rest,'' Van der Voort is clear. ''Coming up next is the Premier League, the Pro Tour, the Euro Tours, the UK Open. Before you know it, it will be June and you will be completely broken again. Getting his rest is really good and he's earned it now, only you have to keep up in terms of training."
