Michael van Gerwen takes comfortable win over James Wade as Gerwyn Price left stunned at German Darts Championship 2024

Without really convincing, Michael van Gerwen has qualified for the last sixteen at the German Darts Championship. On Saturday night he beat James Wade 6-2 in the second round.

Scoring was pretty underwhelming for Wade in the first few legs. Van Gerwen's scores ran a little better, taking the first four legs all to himself. With a 32 finish, Wade finally got on the scoreboard in the fifth leg. Van Gerwen then threw out 87 to make it 5-1. Wade responded with a 76 check-out in the seventh leg, after which the Dutchman took the match 6-2. That also makes for a Dutch fixture in the third round, as Van Gerwen will face Danny Noppert.

Krzysztof Ratajski provided a surprising result by eliminating Gerwyn Price at the last 32. Things quickly looked good for "The Polish Eagle," who managed to win four of the first five legs.

Price then showed resilience by coming back to 4-4 with a 100 finish, among other things. Price then left three darts on tops unused to take the lead, after which Ratajski made it 5-4 with a 10 check-out. Price then forced a final leg, but the last leg proved a winner for Ratajski.

Martin Schindler managed to qualify for the last sixteen in front of his own crowd by recording a hard-fought victory over Mensur Suljovic. The Austrian was leading 3-1 and got to start the odd legs, but could not cash in on this lead.

Using 110 finish, Schindler came back to 3-3. The German then broke Suljovic again, but with a 128 finish Suljovic broke right back. However, the lead remained with Schindler, who threw out 167 in the ninth leg. After Suljovic missed two chances to make it 5-5, Schindler decided the game with a 78 finish.
