Both
Michael van Gerwen and
Luke Humphries showed decent form on Sunday at a exhibition tournament in Finland. The two
World Darts Championship contenders were there along with several darts colleagues to put on a crazy show.
In addition to Van Gerwen and reigning world champion Humphries, both
Gerwyn Price and
Simon Whitlock were also on hand in the Finnish capital Helsinki, where four thousand fans were present to attend the event.
The four top darting stars first played a local player. Van Gerwen faced Anne Kreivi. Mighty Mike won that game convincingly 6-0 by throwing an average of 111.33. Humphries faced Teemu Harju, who we saw several times on the Euro Tour last year. However, the Finn proved no match for "Cool Hand," who was able to win 6-1 thanks to an average of 104.59.
In the semifinals, Humphries also managed to win over Whitlock, while Price took the win against Van Gerwen. Humphries then won 8-6 over "The Iceman" in the final of the Helsinki International Darts Cup, allowing him to call himself the winner of this exhibition event.
Many world top players play demonstrations during this period. Not primarily for a nice extra pocket money, but also to keep up match rhythm ahead of the World Darts Championship.
