Michael van Gerwen tops list of highest ever averages at European Darts Open

This weekend the eleventh edition of the European Darts Open will take place in Leverkusen. This event has been good for quite a few high averages over the years.
Especially in recent years, there has been particularly good throwing at the European Darts Open, according to statistics from FEBsData. Looking at the list of the top-10 highest averages ever at this event, seven of the ten highest averages were thrown at the past two editions.
Since the 2022 edition, the highest average in the history of the European Darts Open stands in the name of Michael van Gerwen. He threw an average of 113.79 in his match against Daryl Gurney. Van Gerwen would win his last of five titles at the European Darts Open at that tournament.
Before that, the record was held for seven years by Robert Thornton, the winner of this European Tour event in 2015. 'The Thorn' then recorded an average of 111.77 in his semi-final against James Wade. Peter Wright pitched an average of 111.29 at the European Darts Open a year earlier.
Gerwyn Price and Rob Cross both threw a 110+ average in the second round in 2023. Price did so against Michael Smith with an average of 110.49. Cross won against William O'Connor in that same round with an average of 110.18. Price also threw an average of 109.93 during the 2023 edition, while Van Gerwen also nearly broke the 110 barrier with a 108.22 average. 
The other top averages in this top-10 are 109.98 by Luke Woodhouse (in 2022), 108.51 by Kim Huybrechts (2013) and 107.87 by Luke Humphries (in 2022).
