Mike de Decker had to suffer a sour defeat at the 2024 Grand Slam of Darts last week. 'The Real Deal' squandered an 8-4 and 9-7 lead against Luke Littler (9-10) in the second round after he was taken off his game by some unsportsmanlike spectators who were continuously whistling when De Decker had to throw.
The darter from Mechelen, Belgium ended up securing 12,250 pounds from his participation in the Grand Slam of Darts. Upon returning home, De Decker decided to try to earn some extra money in another way. He entered a poker tournament in the Belgian city of Antwerp.
De Decker also proved to be handy with poker, as he was the best of all the participants. The 28-year-old Belgian won the 'Pokahnights' event, which is considered ''the biggest live poker club in Belgium.'' With his participation, De Decker earned the top prize of 2,600 euros, plus a bonus of 780 euros in bounties. This money can be earned by eliminating certain opponents. ''He proved that he is not only good with darts, but can also hold his ground with cards and chips,'' the event's organizers announced.
The money is pouring in for De Decker this year. Earlier this year, he won the World Grand Prix, bringing in £120,000. Looking at all of 2024, De Decker already picked up 232,500 pounds for the PDC Order of Merit. De Decker started the season as number 39 in the world, but has already moved up to 24th place thanks to his good performance.
