Mike Gillett and Chris Hartrey have become the final two PDC Community Qualifiers for the upcoming UK Open, securing their spots at this prestigious major by winning their respective amateur qualifying tournaments.
The pair will join Marc Dewsbury and Simon Stevenson, who had already earned their places through the Community Qualifiers. The UK Open is set to take place next weekend at Butlins Minehead, where they will compete against some of the best players in the world.
Welshman Mike Gillett secured his UK Open debut by winning the 25 Bull Darts qualifier in Pencoed, where he defeated Kurt Parry 6-4 in the final. Although this will be his first appearance at the UK Open, Gillett is no stranger to competitive darts. He has previously competed on the PDC Challenge Tour and made multiple attempts at Q-School. He has also featured twice at the WDF World Championship, though he was eliminated in the first round on both occasions.
Chris Hartrey will also make his UK Open debut after winning the qualifier at the Out Out Bar in Newcastle. The 36-year-old warehouse worker from Bristol edged out Kevin Thomas 5-4 in a tense final. Hartrey has been competing on the PDC Challenge Tour for four years and recently participated in Q-School, though without success. Now, he will get the opportunity to test himself against the best in Minehead.
Gillett and Hartrey complete a 16-player amateur lineup for the UK Open, which includes 12 qualifiers from the PDC Amateur Qualifiers. They will also be joined by eight players from the Challenge and Development Tour Order of Merit, alongside the 128 PDC Tour Card holders in the main event.
