Luke Littler made history earlier this year, becoming the youngest ever winner of the PDC World Darts Championship at just 17 years old. 'The Nuke,' who also won the Premier League Darts and the Grand Slam of Darts last year among other successes, seems to be the player mostly likely to threaten Phil Taylor's record of 16 world titles.
For a long time, Taylor's record of 16 world titles seemed something completely unassailable. However, because Littler is already successful at such a young age (Taylor did not win his first world title until he was 29), there is growing belief that Littler could have the longevity required to mount a serious challenge to The Power's legendary records in the sport.
Littler himself though, doesn't seem to be so sure about his own longevity. "Michael van Gerwen said this in a different interview - once the fire goes out your belly, there's just no point in playing," explains The Nuke to PDC referee Huw Ware's Tops and Tales podcast. "So if I say I'm going to continue playing darts for 30 years, well I could wake up tomorrow morning, the fire's gone out of my belly, and I wanna retire."
"I probably won't be playing at 50," continues Littler honestly. "It's just the way the sport's going. It's just growing, growing and growing. But yeah, obviously the one thing I do want to do, and I've said it numerous times, is win one of every major at least once."
Winning trophies is something Littler is already becoming very adept at too, as proven throughout 2024. "Obviously, I've won a Pro Tour, a Euro Tour, the Premier League. I've won the biggest one, the World Championship. I've won the World Series and the Grand Slam. So there's not much left," concludes the world champion.

With his lifestyle, he'll be lucky to still be living at 50 nevermind playing.
