Ryan Murray has made his full debut on the PDC Tour this year and has shown some good results making it to the Players Championship Finals for the first time last month.
"I look back on my debut there with mixed feelings," said Murray to RTLnieuws. "It was my first major tournament and I certainly enjoyed it. It gave me some experience to play on the big stage. Something that you can certainly take with you to the World Championship."
Murray has been getting some practice in with in-form X-Factor Andy Boulton before the tournament. "Before I go to the World Championship, I have had a number of practice sessions with Andy Boulton who is also going to the World Championship. In addition, I will often be with my father, who has set up his own darts room."
In the first round of the World Cup, Murray takes on Lourence Ilagan. "All I know about him is that he played at the World Championship and that he has a little more experience on the big stage," said Murray.
A tie with Michael van Gerwen could await Murray following that with the duo having history. The World Number One famously hit two nine-darters in the same game against him in 2017.
"I remember watching every dart he threw during that match. It was a great moment for him, of course, but it was also exciting for me to be part of such a special match. The video of that match has been viewed millions of times and it will always be a great experience for me. "
