Nathan Aspinall has looked good since returning to the tour in recent weeks and on the European Tour, he has made further strides but fell on Sunday afternoon to Daryl Gurney.
It was a 6-3 win for 'Superchin' as he took down 'The Asp' but it also means a nervous wait is next up for Aspinall. Despite barely playing at times, he has hoisted himself into the final European Championship spot. But Callan Rydz is into the final session. Albeit it seems like his loss early in Budapest might come back to bite him.
He will need to get to the final of the Swiss Darts Trophy in order to unseat Aspinall who saw his win yesterday propel him into that spot. A win in the next round to reach the semi-finals sees him only 500 pounds under.
But for Gurney, it was a superb win as he averaged 99 and hit four maximums in seeing off Aspinall to complete the Quarter-Final line-up.
While Ryan Searle also impressed in the penultimate game of the afternoon. He also booked his spot in the Quarter-Finals by seeing off Madars Razma 6-2.
He won five legs in a row to knock out the Latvian and sealed the deal in style. He hit a 127 checkout on the bull to claim it. As per the draw, he now faces Gurney for a spot in the semi-finals this evening.
Other ties feature Josh Rock facing Luke Humphries, Martin Schindler will take on Raymond van Barneveld. As Callan Rydz aforementioned faces James Wade two games away from unseating Aspinall who is now made to sweat.
