Nathan Aspinall has cemented himself in a select company of top darters by reaching his fourth final on the European Tour this season. This achievement makes 'The Asp' the sixth player ever to reach more than three Euro Tour finals in a single season. An impressive milestone that underscores that Aspinall is in top form in 2025.
Aspinall, who already managed to win the European Darts Trophy and the European Darts Open earlier this year, triumphed at the German Darts Championship last weekend. The 34-year-old Englishman defeated Dutchman Dirk van Duijvenbode 8-6 in the final. In addition to his three tournament wins, Aspinall also reached the final at the International Darts Open this year, where he lost 8-5 to his compatriot Stephen Bunting.
The European Tour has been an important part of the PDC circuit for many years, and as a result, it is not easy to perform consistently in these highly-contested tournaments spread throughout the season. Only a handful of players have managed to reach multiple finals in a single season.
Leading the list is none other than Michael van Gerwen, who played no fewer than eight finals on the Euro Tour in both 2017 and 2018. A record that to this day has not yet been equaled.
Behind them follow the likes of Luke Humphries, who played six finals in 2023, and Peter Wright with five finals in 2017. Ian White and Dave Chisnall reached four finals in 2019 and 2023, respectively - a number Aspinall joined this year.
What makes this performance by Aspinall extra impressive is the consistency he has shown this season. At a time when the level in the PDC is unprecedentedly high and the competition is cutthroat, Aspinall manages to hold his own among the world's top players week in and week out. His game is characterized by solid finishes, high scoring power and strong mental toughness - qualities that have made him one of the crowd favorites on the Euro Tour.

First seed at European Championship

Aspinall finishes first on the European Tour Order of Merit thanks to these strong results. As a result, he will start the European Championship later this week as the first series leader. Aspinall will take on Rob Cross in the first round in Dortmund.
'The Asp' recorded his best result at the 2021 European Championship, when he lost 11-10 to Michael van Gerwen in the semifinals.
