Nathan Aspinall had a lousy 2024 by his own high standards. The 33-year-old Englishman struggled with a wrist injury for a long time and never reached his best level as a result. He even had to give himself a complete break for several months. 'The Asp' hqd hoped to return to his best form in 2025, but already, injury concerns are back and making life difficult.

Aspinall was in action earlier this month at the 2025 Bahrain Darts Masters. There, he lost 6-5 to world number one Luke Humphries in the quarterfinals, but showed signs of improvement with a 100-plus average in defeat. Aspinall started that match with some concerns, however, after he suffered a bug bite just before the start of the tournament and even had to go to the hospital briefly as his arm began to swell.

Last weekend Aspinall competed at the 2025 Dutch Darts Masters in Den Bosch, and it was clear for all to see he was not at 100. In the opening round he slumped to a comprehensive 6-1 loss at the hands of Kevin Doets.

"They weren’t quite sure what it was in Bahrain and they’re still not 100 per cent sure what’s caused it, but, even as recently as yesterday (Thursday), it was still causing him problems," Dan Dawson explained on ITV Sport last weekend. “He had to visit hospital back in the UK this week as well. It is bursitis, so it’s an infection of his elbow. So he’s been taking tablets for it to try and manage the condition, but it looks like something that he’s going to have to deal with for a few weeks.”

Very little time to rest, however. This week the Winmau World Masters is on the program and next Thursday the new Premier League Darts campaign will get underway. Aspinall, by the way, takes on Andrew Gilding in his opening match at the Winmau World Masters. He opens his Premier League campaign against Humphries.
