Nicholson who had his customary day off in the week yesterday eased past the former World Youth Champion in a 5-1 victory but was also helped by Jason Askew faltering at the finishing line.
Askew was facing off against Robert Collins who has not had the best time of it this week but the latter saved some of his finest darts for when they mattered most.
Collins - who currently sits second in the PDC Challenge Tour Order of Merit - got his first win at the fourth time of asking by smashing Askew 5-1 with a 101.2 average and 5/5 on the doubles and as a result, 'The Asset' finished top of the standings again on leg difference.
