Nicholson inflicted a second successive defeat on Raymond van Barneveld in a 5-2 result for 'The Asset' who followed up his closely fought win over Mark Webster earlier.
For Van Barneveld after his earlier defeat to Wessel Nijman, he has some work to do after being beaten convincingly for the second successive tie. In the end it was an impressive display for Nicholson who hit 5/10 on the doubles including a high checkout of 116.
Speaking of an impressive display on the doubles, Nijman continues to impress and the young Dutchman saw off David Evans in a 5-4 victory with a 100 average to make it 2/2. This included high checkouts of 149 and 147 to go alongside 84, 83 and 68.
Evans himself had a high checkout of 109 in a match that saw 62% (Nijman) and 50% (Evans) on the doubles from the duo.
Speaking of having some work to do for Van Barneveld, he then followed that up with a third successive defeat. This time to Mark Webster who registered his first of the day with a 91.7 average.
Van Barneveld wasn't defeated as comprehensively as the other two with it going to a last leg decider and it is a match that Barney could have potentially won.
This is due to him going 3-1 up with a two leg cushion only for Webster to hit back and force a tense ending and his turnaround was complete in the decider claiming the tie and some points on the board.
