Nijman finishes unbeaten with victory over Webster, Evans sees off Nicholson

Wessel Nijman is the winner of Group One as the first day of action at the Icons of Darts Live League is complete with the Dutchman ending his campaign with a 5-1 victory over Mark Webster.
Nijman has been superb all day and has averaged between 92 and 96 for most of the day going from strength to strength after easing past Raymond van Barneveld 5-1 in his opener.
He ended the day by doing the same and averaged 96 in the process with four 180's in defeating the former Lakeside World Champion.
This was also book ended with victories over David Evans and Paul Nicholson 5-4 and 5-3 respectively.
Speaking of Evans, he also ended the day superbly defeating Nicholson 5-2 to make it three wins out of four as 'Stretch' finished second on Day One.
For most of the day, he has capitalised in some cases on players not kicking on and this was the case against 'The Asset' with a timely break after the latter missed a dart at double 16 and followed that up with a hold of throw brought him on the way to victory.

- I dont like individuals or crowds trying to put any player off when they are trying to check out, how anyone can think its okay for the crowd to whistle or shout as someone is throwing for a double is beyond me but it does seem to have become part and parcel of the modern game. If you want to see crowd passion... watch a match when German and Dutch players face off... that can be just as bad if not worse for crowd noises. - It happens. Remember, anyone who has watched German and Dutch players in matches - their respective countries will have seen/heard just as bad jeering (if not worse). - Was watching an old World Masters final the other day between Eric Bristow and John Lowe, the crowd respect for both players on throw was first class, not a sound. You can imagine now the idiots who were whistling on De Deckers throw proudly boasting about it on social media. I blame the PDC to a certain extent though doubt they really care as they win regardless of which player wins or loses.Mysstree16-11-2024
