Nine-dart king Jurjen van der Velde wins PDC Challenge Tour 22 with final win over Jamie Hughes

Hitting a nine-dart finish and winning the 22nd Challenge Tour, fair to say it was a superb end to Saturday for Jurjen van der Velde as he saw off Jamie Hughes.
It was a third Challenge Tour title and first in three years despite not even being in the top 50 at the start of the day. He is now into the top 15 as we head towards the final day in Wigan.
He toppled perfection against Daniel Klose in the semi-finals before averaging 99.97 to see off former European Tour winner Jamie Hughes. He also edged out John Henderson, Steve West, Carl Wilson and Jack Tweddell to celebrate his first Challenge Tour since September 2022. Attention now turns to the last double header tomorrow.

The PDC Challenge Tour is designed for players who participated in the Q-School, but failed to secure a Tour Card there. This circuit offers them a second chance to put themselves in the spotlight.
The highest ranked players on the Challenge Tour Order of Merit can participate as alternates in Players Championship tournaments during the season when spots become available. At the end of the year, the top two ranked players earn a coveted PDC Tour Card for the next two seasons - as well as a starting ticket to the World Darts Championship in Alexandra Palace.

The Players Championship is in my opinion the hardest title to win, 30 odd tournaments with the top 128 and you have to finish in the top 64 to have a chance of the trophy. - Outside of the Players possibly likely to be included, the PDC and the pissed up punters does anyone really care about the Premier League? Noppert may be consistent in getting to latter stages but cannot recall him winning anything as yet this year. - beating price and rock isn't really luck is it, especially given he made the quarters the two previous years as well. dominated the pro tour last year as well, he was hardly the most dubious of the premier league picks, had a better case than aspinall and price did if we're going purely by merit rather than personality. i think everyone knows he won't get in next year's so you aren't really arguing against anybody on that front.colt14-11-2025

- The Germans and the Dutch are far worse when they play each other. What is your opinion about that? The big money is in England and that is where most of the events will stay. Not forgetting, MVG is quite repugnant - at times. There is huge bias for English players - due to the fact that this event is being played in England. - While i do not think dart players should be paid a wage or even expenses it is ludicrous that you get nothing for turning up on the Pro Tour and losing in the first round whereas the officials are being paid a wage. Should have left the World Champion prize money at £500k and split the other £500k down the ranks. A side note to this. Would not surprise me the reason that Warriner Little and Chris Mason are not being retained for TV coverage is because of their support and backing to the players.Mysstree05-11-2025
