No sweat for Lee Evans as he eases into second round on debut, setting up Luke Humphries tie at the World Darts Championship

Opening up the first afternoon session of the 2024 PDC World Darts Championship, Lee Evans has eased to a comfortable 3-0 win on his Ally Pally debut over Sandro Eric Sosing.

Showing little nerves early on, Sosing took out 48 cleanly with his first dart at double to take the first leg of the match. From there though, Evans really began to take control. Averaging ten points more than his opponent, the Englishman reeled off the following three legs to take a 1-0 set lead.

Evans' impressive debut continued in the second set, taking the first leg after the break in 17 darts, cleaned up 68 for a break of throw in leg 2 and the set would be completed in the following leg as he moved one away from a second round tie with pre-tournament favourite Luke Humphries.

With Sosing's average lulling around the 75 mark, a massive step up in quality was needed to launch a comeback. A 17-dart leg on double 16 was a decent place to start, stopping the rot and giving Sosing hope. Evans responded to take the next leg, but after the Englishman missed double 16 for a 110, Sosing punished to move a leg away from the set. Evans held in leg, sending the third set to a decider. Although his level had dropped off significantly, Evans did enough in the deciding leg to secure himself the win.
