Peter Wright has eased through to the second round of the
World Matchplay after a 10-2 victory over
Danny Noppert in the penultimate match of Night Two.
Wright who said he'd win this year's tournament after winning the final Super Series 5 is continuing to show his form with a 99.7 average and 53% on the doubles against the in-form Dutchman.
He also gave the bold prediction pre match that he’d win 10-0
against Noppert but the Dutchman paid heed to that prediction by claiming the
opening leg but barring that, it was all ‘Snakebite’ in the early going with
the World Number Two opening up a 4-1 advantage with a 96.6 average.
This lead was extended to 6-1 on the return from the
interval with a 105 checkout. Noppert though stopped the rot when it looked
like the match was getting away from him at 6-2 down.
But this was a mere consolation as Wright followed up a
third 180 with a 121 checkout to move one step closer to a dominant win at 8-2
up.
Returning from the break, Wright pinned 65 to go to the
brink and he sealed the deal from there to ease through.
