Luke Littler made history early this month by becoming the youngest ever world darts champion. Littler turned eighteen earlier this week and former PDC Tour Card holder Vincent van der Voort expects things to change for him when it is all said and done.
Van der Voort especially sees the British tabloid press lurking. "He was the up-and-coming guy for a while and now he's there. He's also loved by the press, but in the long run that's going to change. When you're still a kid, they're still lenient on you. Once they see you as an adult, they don't mind taking you under," Van der Voort said in the podcast 'Darts Draait Door’.
"Luke will have to watch out for it. You're about to get that the press wants a scandal from him, too. There are stories that people are paid to try to frame other people. So that will be watchful for him"

Van der Voort still sees a big difference between the press in England and the Netherlands. "In the Netherlands you don't have that so much. We are good at expressing our opinions, but that is really Netherlands-own. Then again, they often have trouble with that abroad."
In addition, Van der Voort also expects Littler to become increasingly busy with requests from the press, as well as from the PDC itself. "They always want to know what you think of something. It will be hard for him to start canceling things, because the PDC wants him for everything. Nobody needs to feel sorry for Littler, because he gets paid handsomely for it. And that can only get more now."
Littler is already back in action this weekend at the Dutch Darts Masters. 'The Nuke' is the fourth seed at this second tournament of the World Series of Darts 2025.
