PDC Order of Merit Update | Stephen Bunting up to career-high 4th as Michael Smith drops further down the rankings

After securing his first-ever Euro Tour title, Stephen Bunting has reached another major milestone in his career. For the first time, ‘The Bullet’ is ranked number four in the world on the PDC Order of Merit.
The 39-year-old Englishman triumphed in Riesa, defeating Darius Labanauskas (6-4), Cameron Menzies (6-4), Karel Sedlacek (6-2), former world champion Luke Humphries (7-6), and Nathan Aspinall (8-5) to claim the Euro Tour title and the £30,000 top prize.
While Bunting has made significant strides, there is still some distance to cover if he wants to rise further in the rankings. Michael van Gerwen, currently ranked third, is £170,250 ahead of him. Above Van Gerwen, Luke Littler holds a commanding half-million-pound lead, while Luke Humphries remains well out in front in the number one spot.
However, the competition behind Bunting is much closer. The gap between fourth place and the 11th spot is less than £100,000. Aspinall, who reached his second Euro Tour final of the season in Riesa, moved up to seventh in the world rankings, overtaking Damon Heta.
In other notable movements, Gary Anderson swapped positions with Danny Noppert, with the Scotsman now sitting in 15th. Michael Smith dropped three spots, falling to 20th. Meanwhile, Ross Smith, Ryan Searle, and Dimitri Van den Bergh all gained ground, each moving up one place. Martin Schindler also made progress, overtaking Mike de Decker to claim 21st.
Wessel Nijman and Niels Zonneveld also saw improvements in their rankings, largely due to Jose de Sousa’s two-place drop. Zonneveld moved up to 45th, while Nijman climbed two spots to become the world’s 46th-ranked player. Richard Veenstra, boosted by his performance at the International Darts Open, advanced to 50th.
Karel Sedlacek made a notable jump, trading his 102nd position for 93rd after reaching the quarterfinals at the International Darts Open. Labanauskas, meanwhile, climbed six spots to 96th.

- I agree. There needs to be a points system and preferably just a rolling one year. World Championship should earn the most points though it can be argued that the current qualification system does see a fair few players qualify from regional country qualifiers who would struggle to hold down a place on the Pro Tour. If prize money won is going to remain as the determining factor for ranking then the World Championship should just consist of the 128 Tour Card Holders. Another option would be to take the World Championship out of the rankings and have it as the stand alone pinnacle that you qualify for by winning certain tournaments or your ranking position, sort of like a GSOD+.Mysstree05-04-2025
