Gerwyn Price delivered a statement performance in Leicester to claim the Players Championship 6 title, sealing a dominant 8-1 victory over Andrew Gilding in the final. On a day already etched into the history books by Beau Greaves’ groundbreaking nine-dart leg, Price ensured the trophy left with the number one seed.
Price averaged 95.59 in the final to Gilding’s 94.67, but the scoreline told the real story. A clinical start put the Welshman in immediate control and he never allowed his opponent a route back into the contest.

How Price and Gilding reached the final

Gerwyn Price powered his way through the Leicester field with relentless scoring. He opened with a 6-1 win over Cristo Reyes, averaged 107.85 in another 6-1 victory against Maik Kuivenhoven and then defeated Lukas Wenig 6-2. The standard rose further in the latter stages, with Price averaging 109.48 in a 6-1 demolition of Scott Waites and 108.59 in a 6-4 quarter-final win over Kevin Doets. In the semi-finals, he saw off Jonny Clayton 7-4 with a 104.47 average to reach the final in commanding fashion.
Andrew Gilding’s route was built on resilience rather than dominance. He beat Scott Williams and Leon Weber 6-4 before ending Martijn Dragt’s impressive run with a 6-2 victory. A 100.47 average helped him past Kim Huybrechts 6-4 in the last 16, but the real tests came late on. Gilding edged out Ross Smith 6-5 in the quarter-finals and then survived another deciding leg to defeat Thibault Tricole 7-6 in the semi-finals, holding his nerve to seal a place in the final.

Price dominates from the start

The final itself was one-way traffic from the outset. Price opened with a 104 finish to hold throw, broke immediately for 2-0 and soon stretched the lead to 3-0. Even when Gilding averaged over 100 early on, he found himself chasing the match.
A 68 checkout secured a double break for 5-1, and although Gilding managed to get on the board with a bullseye finish, there was no sustained comeback. The defining moment came at 7-1, when Price produced a stunning 153 checkout just as Gilding looked poised to claim a second leg. From there, the Welshman closed out an emphatic 8-1 triumph to lift the title.

Greaves makes history in Leicester

Greaves struck perfection in her second-round clash with Mensur Suljovic, a landmark achievement that will stand as one of the most significant moments in the women’s game within the PDC system. She went on to win that match 6-5 before her run ended in the last 32 with a 6-3 defeat to David Sharp.
There was a second nine-dart leg later in the tournament, with Max Hopp achieving perfection in his third-round match against Thibault Tricole, although he ultimately lost 6-4.
Elsewhere, the struggles of some former world champions continued. Peter Wright, after winning his opening match, suffered a heavy 6-0 defeat to David Sharp in round two, averaging just 70.77 in a performance that underlined his ongoing difficulties. Raymond van Barneveld’s difficult start to 2026 also deepened, the Dutchman falling 6-4 to Arno Merk in the opening round for his sixth consecutive first-round exit on the ProTour.
