The new edition of the Premier League Darts will begin in early February. Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m., the PDC will announce which eight players will be competing in the prestigious darts competition that starts on Thursday, Feb. 1.
Luke Humphries, as the brand new world champion, is undoubtedly going to make his debut in Premier League Darts. Michael van Gerwen, Michael Smith, Nathan Aspinall and Gerwyn Price can also almost certainly count on an invitation. The big question, of course, is whether the PDC will dare to throw teenage sensation Luke Littler directly to the lions den. The 16-year-old prodigy reached the final on his debut at the World Darts Championship, only to lose 5-7 to Humphries after leading 4-2.
The issue that likely arises with Littler is due to being 16 and whether there is red tape surrounding him leaving school to play darts with the likelihood of having to play ProTour, European Tour qualifiers and European Tour around the Premier League giving minimal days for school or college. But given his worldwide appeal, it will be red tape that could be breached and it will soon be found out on Sky Sports News whether he is in.
The format for the 2024 Premier League Darts remains the same as previous years. The eight players will play mini-tournaments each week for 16 weeks. The four players who have performed best will compete for the final victory on Thursday, May 23, during the playoffs.
