Two players have made a flawless start to the new
Players Championship season, while three others are still waiting for their first win. After six floor events, a clear contrast has emerged between the best and the worst in the opening rounds.
Perfect start for two Germans
In statistics collected by The Red Bit on X, the strongest early records belong to two German players. Both
Max Hopp and
Lukas Wenig have won their opening match at every
Players Championship event in 2026 so far, giving them a perfect six wins from six first-round ties.
For Hopp, it marks a strong and consistent start to the campaign, making full use of his experience on the ProTour circuit. Wenig, meanwhile, has shown he is ready to deliver results on a regular basis. A solid start on the floor is crucial: surviving the first round not only secures prize money but also valuable ranking points for the ProTour Order of Merit.
Three players still without a win
At the other end of the spectrum are three players who remain without a single victory after six tournaments. Croatia’s
Pero Ljubic, Sweden’s
Oskar Lukasiak and Dutchman
Dennie Olde Kalter have all lost their opening match in each of the six Players Championship events.
For them, the priority is to turn things around quickly. At Players Championship level, the margins are extremely fine and one strong run can completely transform a season. With plenty of floor tournaments still to come, there will be ample opportunities to reverse this difficult start.
The upcoming events will show whether Hopp and Wenig can maintain their perfect record, and whether Ljubic, Lukasiak and Olde Kalter can finally get their first win on the board.
The Players Championship circuit now pauses for around a month before resuming on Monday 30 March, when the seventh tournament of the year takes place in Leicester.
