Peter Wright has advanced to the semifinals at the Australian Darts Masters with a handsome victory over
Rob Cross. 'Snakebite' recorded a 6-4 victory over the Englishman.
Voltage' had reached the final in each of the last three World Series tournaments, but that series will come to an end in Wollongong. The next four legs went with the darts, before Cross missed a chance at tops in the ninth to make it 5-4. Wright took advantage and broke his opponent with tops. The two-time world champion then hit a 15-darter to advance to the semifinals of this World Series tournament.
Wright has won four World Series titles in the past, including the Nordic Darts Masters in 2023. In 2018, the Scot was also successful on Australian soil by taking the overall victory at the Melbourne Darts Masters. To reach another final in Australia, Wright will have to deal with
Gerwyn Price in the semifinals. 'The Iceman' won 6-4 in his quarterfinal over
Damon Heta, the last Australian dart player still in the tournament.
Price was able to take the first leg of his match by throwing a 24-darter. The next five legs all went with the darts as well, making the score 3-3 after six legs. In leg seven, Heta provided the first break with a 17-darter in Price's leg. Heta then was not out himself in five visits, after which Price provided the rebreak with a 15-darter. The Welshman regained the lead with a 12-darter in the ninth leg. Heta then missed four chances to force a deciding leg, before Price took the win by hitting double 9.
Gerwyn Price has only won one tournament so far this year, but that was at the World Series. In June, he won the Nordic Darts Masters. In 2022, the Welshman also provided success at the New Zealand Masters, while Price has also won the World Series Finals twice (2020 and 2022).
