Michael van Gerwen will not meet another Dutchman at the
German Darts Championship after his victory over Danny Noppert.
Peter Wright won in the last sixteen over Gian van Veen and face Might Mike himself.
Wright reached the last eight of a Euro Tour tournament for the first time this season by beating Van Veen 6-4. Van Veen surrendered his own leg as early as the first leg, but broke Wright right back in the second leg.
In the third leg, Wright missed a chance to break Van Veen again, while the Dutchman missed four break chances in the sixth leg. Van Veen then showed his class with a 142 finish to make it 4-3. Wright, however, responded in great fashion with a 143 check-out in the eighth leg. Van Veen was allowed to start the ninth leg, but was not out in five innings after two missed doubles. Wright took advantage and broke Van Veen with a 13-darter to take a 5-4 lead. Snakebite' then decided the match with a 16-darter.
Daryl Gurney became the next name we will see again Sunday night in the quarterfinals of the German Darts Championship. The Northern Irishman was 6-2 too strong for Krzysztof Ratajski at the last sixteen. Gurney erased an 0-1 deficit with a 10-darter and a 13-darter, before Ratajski made it 2-2 with a 102 finish. Ratajski then missed five chances to regain the lead before Gurney made it 3-2 with a 19-darter.
A 67 finish in the sixth leg then brought Gurney to 4-2, before 'Superchin' put the margin at 5-2 with a 15-darter. In the eighth leg, Ratajski missed one more chance to stay in the match. That miss was punished by Gurney, who sealed the match with a 72 finish.
