Devon Petersen is through to the Last 16 at the 2020/21 PDC World Darts Championship after seeing off Jason Lowe ending his run in this year's tournament in a straight sets win.
Petersen impressed after a poor opening foray which saw him ahead but not playing his best but he crashed in nine 180's in all as he increased his level towards the end.
A 180 followed by double 10 saw Petersen hold to begin the tie and he was sat at three maximums but his doubles deserted him. Despite that though, he was 2-1 up pinning double two as Lowe couldn’t capitalise.
Petersen missed a dart at the set after carving himself out an opportunity but Lowe didn’t get a shot and ‘The African Warrior’ sealed the deal on double eight.
Lowe put in his first 180 and he held throw on double 20 to begin the second set. But he needed a break with Petersen holding throw also.
A brilliant 135 with a brilliant bull marker saw Lowe go one away from the set. He missed multiple darts for the set though and Petersen let him off the hook to send it to a decider.
Petersen piled on the pressure in case Lowe missed 96 for the set which he did and this allowed the South African back at a 79 checkout but he missed two darts at double 11. The Cradley Heath ace couldn’t compose himself though and Petersen killed it off to go 2-0 up in sets.
Petersen continued to miss but so did Lowe and Petersen went 1-0 up to begin set three. He didn’t hang around in the next leg with double 20 being pinned to break as he went towards a 3-0 lead.
Petersen punished Lowe with a cracking 160 checkout after Lowe missed double 16 for a 140 checkout. He crashed in a 180 as his confidence began to soar and it was another to leave 41 on Lowe’s throw which he pinned.
It was a ninth 180 crashed in by Petersen followed by 165 as he left double eight to go one away. A 72 checkout from Lowe saw him claim a consolation.
An 81 checkout saw him break back and go one away from claiming a set back. But nine darts to leave 121 left Petersen in a good position.
Lowe missed double 20 for the set and Petersen pinned 78 to win through in straight sets.
