The Players Championship Finals are scheduled to take place between 21-23 November 2025, with the tournament featuring the top 64 names from the ProTour, one of the few tournaments that uses a system based on the year's ranking.
This has meant issues for the likes of Luke Littler, Luke Humphries among others in actually qualifying for the Players Championship Finals. With the early season comprising of the Premier League and also the start of the European Tour, many of the top names decided either not to play or not take the events too seriously.
This led to a mad dash with Michael van Gerwen being the main casualty this year to not even qualify. This is for the first time in his long career that he has not managed to make it to Minehead. He has dealt with personal problems with a divorce impending and decided to take a family holiday during the last lot of ProTours instead of a final gasp qualification.
But others such as Humphries, Littler and Nathan Aspinall also left it late. This also gives a different complexion to the seeds with Littler in 36th, Humphries in 58th. But often those at the top are those who play the ProTour throughout the year e.g Gerwyn Price who won four titles on the circuit this year. Wessel Nijman, Damon Heta, Ross Smith and Chris Dobey were all perennial title winners and comprise the top five. It is then drawn based off the split so 1 v 64, 2 v 63 etc.

Predictions

Samuel Gill, Head Editor for DartsNews.com sees the top seed prevailing.
I see Gerwyn Price as the champion in Minehead. He's top seed for a reason on the ProTour and I see Luke Littler and co being unseeded as an issue when it comes to later in the tournament.
Given that it is the last tournament before the World Championship we often have shocks and I see that being the case again albeit Price isn't particularly a shock. In Premier League contention though it would help soothe the sense that he might miss out which in my view is ludicrous but is a view touted around.
Josh Rock in my view is too good not to win a major so would be another pick. While I would not be shocked if Gian van Veen has to play both the World Youth final and a semi-final in a session. Danny Noppert is also a dead cert at this point while Luke Humphries is too so I'd wrap those together as well as a few rogue shouts in Wessel Nijman, Martin Schindler and Ross Smith.

Pieter Verbeek, Head Editor for DartsNieuws.com sees Littler as champion in no surprise.
Wherever Luke Littler goes, he is the man to beat. For a long time, that was true even when he sat second in the world rankings, but at the Players Championship Finals, The Nuke will officially make his debut as the world number one. The reigning world champion will be eager to prove why he is currently regarded as the best player on the planet.
In Minehead, Littler faces stern competition from Luke Humphries and Gerwyn Price, both of whom impressed with strong runs at the Grand Slam of Darts. Humphries, in particular, will arrive with confidence, having won the last two editions of the Players Championship Finals.
Two dark horses come from the Netherlands. Gian van Veen has been one of the revelations of the season, capping off his rise with a surprise victory at the European Championship in October. He also performed well at the Grand Slam of Darts but was eliminated in the group stage on leg difference by Josh Rock and Wessel Nijman. Rock, of course, remains one of the leading contenders for this major title, while Danny Noppert should not be overlooked either. The Freeze has enjoyed a superb 2025 campaign, reaching no fewer than five semi-finals in major tournaments.

Nicolas Gayer, Editor for DartsNews.DE sees a different winner than Luke Humphries and isn't picking Littler as even one of the favourites.
The Players Championship Finals are more than just another major tournament — they are the dress rehearsal for the World Championship. And once again, just like last year, I expect Luke Humphries to head to Ally Pally with the final ranking title of the calendar year in his pocket.
Cool Hand Luke has impressed me enormously in recent weeks. After a spell earlier this year in which his game looked a bit shaky and disjointed, the Englishman now seems to be settling beautifully into his adjusted throwing rhythm. It sounds almost ridiculous to say, but the 2024 World Champion looks even more controlled than before. He appears to read every match situation perfectly, no longer risks overpacing — as he himself has admitted — and is projecting an aura of near-invincibility at the moment.
Of course, there’s one major flaw in this prediction: my pick to win is not Luke Littler. Which, statistically speaking, makes the likelihood of this prediction coming true rather slim. But I’m sticking my neck out here: the only realistic scenario in which Littler can currently be beaten is in short formats — like those used in the early rounds of the Players Championship Finals. That’s why I’m making the bold call that Littler will bow out in Minehead no later than round two, likely against Ross Smith or Niko Springer.
Among the remaining contenders, two Dutchmen stand out for me: Danny Noppert and Gian van Veen are both in the form of their lives, and I expect them to make plenty of noise in Minehead once again.
