Players Championship Finals set to undergo huge change from 2027 onwards

With the introduction of the 2027 PDC calendar, darts is continuing its huge transformation into the Players Championship Finals, with there being stark changes with how this major event works.

According to Online Darts, the event will be extended from 64 to 128 players. That means it will be so much easier for the big names to qualify, something bigging a number of the big players who regularly skip these floor events amid a very busy schedule.

It will follow in suit to the UK Open in terms of how that is played out, also in Minehead. A multi-board room format will be implemented with the most appetising matchups set to be broadcasted on the big stage as per usual.

All of this means more players to compete in the Players Championship Finals, with the usual Players Championship Order of Merit not set to be used, favouring instead the ProTour Order of Merit with the top 128 players on there set to be confirmed to participate in the major event.

As things stand, the reigning champion Luke Littler will not be competing in the 2026 Players Championship Finals after just competing in two floor events all year. The likes of Nathan Aspinall and Josh Rock also have a race to get to Minehead, with the event taking place from November 27-29. It will be the last time that 64 players compete with the changes set to come in from 2027.
