The Hungarian Darts Trophy is scheduled from September 19-21, 2025, at the imposing MVM Dome in Budapest. The tournament is the twelfth of 14 PDC European Tour events this season and is an important hurdle toward the European Darts Championship later in October.
The field features 48 players and a total prize pool of £175,000 is up for grabs, with the winner alone taking home £30,000. Title holder Michael van Gerwen won the tournament last year after a blood-curdling 8-7 victory over compatriot Gian van Veen.
Previously Dave Chisnall and Joe Cullen, among others, won the trophy in the Hungarian capital. Below we give a preview of the eight matches from the third round on Sunday afternoon..

Chris Dobey v Cameron Menzies

The afternoon session at the MVM Dome will kick off with the duel between Chris Dobey and Cameron Menzies. Dobey had little trouble with Darren Beveridge in the previous round. Menzies, on the other hand, caused a little surprise by sending 11th-seeded Ross Smith home. Dobey starts this match as the favorite given his higher ranking, yet he will certainly not underestimate Menzies. The Scot is having a very stable year and is knocking on the door of top 32. It just remains to be seen which Menzies we will get to see, after all, the last few weeks - unlike the months before - he has been blowing somewhat hot and cold.

Michael van Gerwen v Danny Noppert

Next Michael van Gerwen and Danny Noppert take to the oche. Van Gerwen impressed just last week by winning the World Series of Darts Finals at home, his first major TV title in two years. We got to see the "old" Van Gerwen again, who piled up high averages and was also very steady on his doubles. If he can show that form again this weekend, another title is definitely in the cards. 'Mighty Mike' did not impress in his opening match against Matthew Dennant, but did enough to win easily 6-2. Against Noppert, however, he will have to play better. The 35-year-old Fries is regularity itself and is still neatly in the top 16 of the world rankings. Noppert does yearn for another title and why not this weekend?

Gerwyn Price v Raymond van Barneveld

What a treat it was to see the very best Raymond van Barneveld in action once again in the last round. The 58-year-old Dutchman defeated Dave Chisnall 6-1 and clocked up an average of just under 108. A welcome boost for 'Barney' in a particularly difficult year. In recent years, he has not radiated much pleasure during his matches and the early eliminations have piled up. Was it a one-time flurry from Van Barneveld or can he excel against Price as well with great play? The 40-year-old Welshman has already won four Players Championships this year and has also been successful on the European Tour and the World Series of Darts. Price is back at it after a difficult 2024 and is one of the top contenders to win another major this fall.

Luke Littler v Martin Schindler

Next it's Luke Littler's turn to enter the MVM Dome. 'The Nuke' has already won three majors this year and was close to another title last week when he lost to Michael van Gerwen in the final of the World Series of Darts Finals. Littler - who beat Joe Cullen 6-1 in his opening match - will take on Martin Schindler for a place in the quarterfinals. 'The Wall' was the best at the Austrian Darts Open earlier this year and dreams of new success on the European Tour.

James Wade v Kim Huybrechts

James Wade is experiencing his second youth this year. Among other things, two major finals have ensured that he has once again risen to fifth place in the world rankings. 'I'm still standing' it sounds in his rise song and it is true, after more than 20 years at the top, 'The Machine' is still there. Wade will take on Kim Huybrechts in the third round. The 39-year-old Belgian was not originally seeded for this tournament, but was allowed to step up as a reserve and not entirely without success. In his first two matches, he defeated Andreas Hyllgaardhus and Peter Wright, respectively. Wade versus Huybrechts is a repeat of their duel in the second round of the past Flanders Darts Trophy. Then Wade drew the longest, can Huybrechts turn the tables this time?

Thibault Tricole v Josh Rock

Thibault Tricole surprised in the previous round by sending Stephen Bunting - still one of the men of the season - home 6-5. 'The French Touch' will face Josh Rock for a place in the quarter-finals. The 24-year-old Northern Irishman won the World Cup of Darts in mid-June alongside Daryl Gurney and seems to have been playing on a cloud ever since. Rock has been a regular name in the final stages of tournaments in recent weeks, but is now particularly yearning for a title. Why not this weekend?

Rob Cross v Niko Springer

The penultimate match of the afternoon session is between Rob Cross and Niko Springer. Cross, a former world champion and multiple major winner, has not really managed to impress yet this year. Still, he starts his match against Niko Springer as the favorite. Although Cross will certainly be on his guard, the 25-year-old German is known as a great talent and was in the previous round 6-1 too strong for the ninth-seeded Damon Heta.

Luke Humphries v Mike De Decker

The afternoon session will be closed by Luke Humphries and Mike De Decker. This match is a replay of the 2024 World Grand Prix final, when De Decker prevailed 6-4. Humphries defeated Nathan Aspinall in the previous round and, with the important majors approaching this fall, is quietly growing into his best form. The latter can also be said of De Decker, who won easily 6-2 over Tom Bissell in the previous round.
