Price blames himself after Blackpool elimination: "Bombed too many opportunities"

Gerwyn Price's hopes of claiming the World Matchplay title for the first time in his career were brought to a crashing end on Tuesday night. After a thrilling match, 'The Iceman' went down 13-11 against Joe Cullen in the last sixteen.

Price did not play well, especially early in the match. He fell behind 4-1 and 8-6, but still suddenly found himself ahead 10-8. The Welshman missed one match dart at the bullseye to finish it off, eventually losing after in overtime.

And he had only himself to blame for that, Price concluded on Instagram. ''Great game towards the end. Early legs cost me big time."

'Even though I got myself in front I'd already bombed too many opportunities,'' wrote Price, who still complimented Cullen. ''Well played though Joe, held it together at the end. All the best for the rest of the tournament."
