A rock-solid
Daryl Gurney has qualified for the quarterfinals of the
World Matchplay. 'Superchin' floored one of the dark horses for the tournament, Gary Anderson 11-4 in the second round thanks to a superb performance.
Gurney achieved over 104 average. "I stunned myself to be honest. I would have took just a win but to perform like that, I'm over the moon," Gurney said. "In all honestly it was probably needed. Gary played well, I was just lucky with a couple of doubles here and there."
Worked hard
Gurney won two majors several years ago and was briefly as high as No. 3 in the world. "I feel like I'm a better player now all-round," said the 37-year-old Northern Irishman. "If I can stay consistent, keep hitting two trebles a visit and keep my doubles percentage up I'll do well."
"They all know I can play. I'm a better player now," concluded Gurney, sending out a warning to the rest of the field. He will take on Joe Cullen in the quarter-finals.
