Darts Orakel, a platform that deals with all kinds of data and statistics has brought out yet another very interesting piece of information, this time regarding the highest annual averages in 2023 so far.
Thus, a comparison was made in terms of averages between this year and three years ago. And what turns out, where in 2020 Michael van Gerwen was still leading this list, now it is Gerwyn Price. Van Gerwen can be found in third place this year.
Even more striking is that in 2020 Ian White (4th), Krzysztof Ratajski (5th), Devon Petersen (6th), Glen Durrant (7th) and José de Sousa (8th) were still in this list. None of those names can be found in the top-8 this year.
Those who do appear in the top eight this year include Luke Humphries, Josh Rock and new World Matchplay champion Nathan Aspinall. Gary Anderson is also making a serious comeback, as his second place in this year's list of highest averages shows.

- Maybe the supposed top players are burnt out from the endless travelling and tournaments, I just don't think they have the dedication or outright desire to win. I think they are more interested in the money and being popular, just keeping their rankings steady. The only thing that mattered to Phil Taylor was winning, not winning a few games to top up the money pot and seeking the fans attention. Maybe there is too many tournaments now and the enthusiasm is gone. This year especially has seen so many different winners and unexpected draws and line ups.richieburnettrocks14-11-2024
