Gerwyn Price will be favourite to seal a maiden UK Open title tomorrow after easing into the Quarter-Finals in Minehead with victory over Callan Rydz 10-3.
It was a comprehensive rout for the current World Number One who is only two games away from keeping his spot as the leader of the Order of Merit. He averaged 106.6 with six 180’s as he saw off ‘The Riot’.
Price finished 80 in the early going to go 3-1 up and increased his lead at the interval leaving Rydz with no chance at 4-1 with a 107 average and 80% on the doubles.
Rydz finally got another leg on the board in the form of double four to go 5-2 down but Price sealed a break to go 7-2 up on double 12 as he was cruising towards the Quarter-Finals. That was consolidated on double 10 to go 8-2 up.
‘The Iceman’ went one away from there with a 105 average. A sixth 180 and 87 checkout after Rydz missed 90 saw Price get over the line.
While over on Stage Two, Damon Heta produced another exceptional display to down Jonny Clayton and progress to the Quarter-Finals to finish proceedings in Red’s Bar for another year.
He backed up his earlier win over Michael van Gerwen with another superb showing against ‘The Ferret’. The highlight of which was a 100 checkout using two double 20’s and as his new walk-on song says, Things Can Only Get Better and they certainly are for the Aussie ace who continues his exceptional form.
He is now also the new Australian Number One displacing Simon Whitlock to become the new World Number 23 but can ‘The Heat’ go all the way?
