Peter Wright will not add another
UK Open title to his resume this weekend after losing out to
William O'Connor in a 10-7 victory for 'The Magpie' who reaches the Quarter-Finals for the first time.
Wright's doubles were the issue with only 7/25 en route to defeat with O'Connor averaging 94, hitting two 180's and 55.6% on the doubles in victory.
He went up 3-2 at the first interval despite averaging 17 points less than his opponent and this trend continued as despite being outscored, he went 5-4 up and consolidated the break to go 6-4 up at the interval.
It was another break with O'Connor going 7-4 up and with his doubling at 60%, he soon went one away at 9-7 up before completing the feat last dart in hand on double four with Wright waiting on 60.
While
Michael Smith is through sending Mensur Suljovic home on his 50th birthday putting heed to those celebrations with a 10-9 narrow win.
He also hit a nine-dart finish during the match after James Wade had previously hit one on the big stage but it is 'Bully Boy' who wins through and will be in the draw later.
