The stage is set.
Gerwyn Price will face Dirk van
Duijvenbode on Monday evening in the
World Grand Prix final after seeing off
Dave Chisnall in a thrilling sudden death tie.
Chisnall threatened once more to complete another escape act
and he came from 3-1 down to force a decider and he missed three match darts allowing
Price to escape himself as a 4-3 winner and into his first final in the double
start tournament.
Price claimed first blood in the opening set edging through
with a 13-darter in the decider to gain the early impetus.
Chisnall himself came back though immediately with a
dominant set reply. He rattled off three straight legs to level it up and he
thrusted the momentum his way by opening the next set with a 130 checkout to
lead.
He made it five without reply by taking out 88 on double
seven but a pivotal moment came with Price hitting a show stopping 104 to break
throw and force a deciding leg which he took to make it 2-1. Price began the
requisite set with the lead but Chisnall showed a potential way back into the
tie the way he has the last few days with a 122 rot stopper.
‘The Iceman’ though wasn’t stopping and edged the fourth set
to make it 3-1 and potentially put Chisnall on the brink of defeat.
He hit another 104 to claim the first leg of the next set
but again Chisnall was back as he hit a 74 to level it up and he added another
set to his tally from there to make it 3-2 and potentially put it to a decider.
A decider it was as he recovered once more from two sets
down to force a decider and he gained the first leg of the final set as Price
fluffed his lines at a finish and he took advantage on double 16.
Price though returned finally and hit a 130 on the bull to
break back. Chisnall couldn’t get in on Price’s throw for four darts and the
latter got away slightly.
He stayed in touch with a 180 but Price left 69 and Chisnall
was on a bogey number. ‘The Iceman’ as a result pinned it to go one away.
A brilliant 174 left Chisnall on double eight and despite a
162 from Price to pressure, the latter couldn’t take out 140 and the St Helens
ace forced a sudden death leg on a double one.
A timely 180 saw Chisnall steal the darts and 138 saw him
leave 68 for the victory with Price leaving 142.
‘Chizzy’ missed a match dart but Price couldn’t get the
second treble 17 to leave a double and the former was allowed double nine for
the victory.
But the danger of going inside single nine was achieved and
a happy accident saw Price hit double 16 to leave double 12 which is one of his
favourite doubles which he pinned first time.
