Gerwyn Price is successfully through to the Quarter-Finals of the 2020/21 PDC
World Darts Championship after seeing off Mervyn King in a 4-1 win.
It was a superb display from 'The Iceman' who will now face off against Daryl Gurney in a potentially superb tie in the New Year.
He hit four 180's, a 97 average, three ton plus checkouts and 52% on the doubles in the first game in the evening session of the Last 16 to not to go to a sudden death leg.
King missed double eight for the lead and a hold and Price
was back for an 82 checkout and an early break with a trademark roar from ‘The
Iceman’.
He hit 136 to leave 40 with King needing 170 to break back
which he didn’t claim and as a result, Price went 2-0 up.
King couldn’t claim an 81 checkout missing the bull and
Price pinned a 148 for the opening set in a clean sweep.
A 115 checkout saw Price up with a hold in set two. It was a
level set with King pinning double 16. A 180 saw Price leave 47 which he pinned
on double 10 to go 2-1 up.
King kicked off with a maximum on his throw and double 20
saw him take it to a decider. King left 32 with a 137 and Price was unable to
follow up a first treble 20 for a shot at 146 and King pinned double four last
dart in hand to level it up.
A 106 saw him lead Price with a hold of throw but Price also
held with an 88 checkout on double 10. Price hit two 180’s in a row but didn’t
get a shot at a nine-darter. He was under the cosh potentially with King
waiting on 40 but he pinned the same target for a 2-1 lead.
A poor leg from King gave Price a shot at 128, he missed
double four first time but he pinned it first time in the following visit to go
2-1 up in sets.
King missed 121 on double 14 and Price was back for double
10 to hold and go 1-0 up. A 59 checkout tied it up for King and a 72 checkout
saw him break and go 2-1 up towards a potential 2-2 in sets.
A 128 set up to leave 36 for Price threatened to send it the
way of Price and King dropped an opportunity at 108 and Price went 2-2.
He followed it up on his throw with a 180 and pinned a 93 checkout
to make it 3-2 and go 3-1 up in sets.
A 180 from Price left 81 with King needing 124 to hold his
throw. Price took it on double six though with King failing to capitalise after
Price missed the bull for an 81.
King hit a 180 on Price’s throw but a poor start to the leg
meant that ‘The Iceman’ had a shot at 50. Price though fluffed his lines on the
doubles and King broke back.
A brilliant 116 on double 20 saw Price break back again and
he went to one leg away. A 138 from King left 40 but he missed three darts to
break once more and Price pinned double 20 for the victory.
