From Friday, May 23 to Sunday May 25, the Dutch Darts Championship sees a shift over to another different country for the European Tour as Rosmalen and in particular the Autotron holds the seventh tournament of the season. The prize money is now set ahead of the event.
In addition to the glory of winning especially a caveat for such players as Michael van Gerwen on home soil, prize money wise it sees a total of £175,000 on offer over the course of the weekend.
Players who enter are assured of £1,250 this goes all the way up to a top prize of £30,000. This was claimed last year by Josh Rock who defeated Jonny Clayton in the final 8-4. He returns this year to defend his crown.

With these tournaments, the interesting facet is that players who are seeded via the Order of Merit e.g Luke Humphries, Michael van Gerwen among others won't collect their prize money for their rankings if they lose their first match.
This does not count though if a player is a seed by virtue of withdrawal by others which is often the case over these weekends. The prize money from this counts not only towards the Order of Merit but also the European Tour Order of Merit.
Josh Rock was the champion last year defeating Jonny Clayton 8-4 in the final.

Speaking of top names, Stephen Bunting, Rob Cross, James Wade, Gerwyn Price, Gary Anderson are also in action. Luke Littler continues to snub European Tour events and not just those in Graz or Germany as Nathan Aspinall with one eye presumably on the play-offs is also not involved. Dimitri van den Bergh was the other player to withdraw owing to a recent mental health break.
Only the top 32 in this Order of Merit will qualify for the European Championship. Often in the past top names who have not played as many events are left clawing to get into this tournament last minute. While for those who the events they are almost certain of their spot so Gary Anderson for instance last year later withdrew from further tournaments.
