Gerwyn Price captured his second title of the season at the 2024 World Series of Darts on Saturday by defeating Luke Littler 8-1 in the final of the Australian Darts Masters.
The Welshman had qualified for the final of the World Series tournament in Wollongong by beating Brenton Lloyd (6-2), Damon Heta (6-4) and Peter Wright (7-6). In the final against Littler, 'The Iceman' quickly gained a comfortable lead by winning all of the first five legs. After Littler got on the scoreboard in the sixth leg, Price picked up two more legs to push his opponent aside 8-1.
Littler's performance earlier in the tournament, made Price determined to start the match sharp. 'The Nuke' previously defeated Michael Smith (6-4) and Dimitri van den Bergh (7-6) with averages above 104.
“Luke is playing fantastic darts at the moment, and that probably kicked me into gear,” said Price to the PDC.
“I know I need to play well against every player, but especially against this young talent, so I was right up for this game.
For Price, it is only his second title of the season. Earlier this year, the current world number six was also successful on the World Series circuit by winning the Nordic Darts Masters.
“I haven’t been playing well over the last couple of months, but I really wanted to win this one. We can all hit nine, ten, 11, 12-darters, but the game is all about confidence, and this will give me the big confidence boost that I needed.”
The former rugby player rose to second place on the World Series Order of Merit as a result of this title at the Australian Darts Masters. Losing finalist Littler still leads the rankings.
