Ilagan did not surrender any legs in his first two matches. The Filipino darter defeated Siew Cherng Tieh and Celso Parfan both 4-0. This was followed by victories over Christopher Sarmiento Melo (4-2) and Yoshihisa Baba (4-3) for a spot in the semifinals.
In the semifinals, Ilagan had to fight hard against Motomu Sakai. After falling behind 1-3, Ilagan won 5-4. Then in the final, Ilagan was too strong 5-1 for compatriot Alexis Toylo.
