James Wade has qualified for the quarterfinals of the
Players Championship Finals thanks to a 10-6 victory against
Dimitri Van den Bergh. Now a duel with the man in form Luke Humphries awaits.
Wade had also won against Steve Lennon earlier in the day at the last 32. "It's been a bloody long day. I played awful in that last one. I got nervous, I got apprehensive, I got all of those things that you shouldn't get," admits 'The Machine'. "I'm surprised he got that close to me to be honest with you. It's hard work going on last game of the night."
NEW: Go to our LIVE SCORE to follow the Players Championship Finals 2023!! Wade has not had his best year yet, but in recent weeks, with this latest run marking a third straight TV quarterfinal (Final at European Championship, Semi-finals at Grand Slam of Darts), he is quietly showing signs of improvement. "I'm finishing quite well, that last game was probably the worst game I've played in quite a while, but I was fortunate enough I got on the lucky side of things," he says, still not totally happy with his level.
Wade will take on Luke Humphries in the quarterfinals. "I'm not bothered by him. I've got the utmost respect for him, I would say he's probably one of the very best players in the world at the moment. I put him up amongst the realms of Gezzy which is phenomenal."
"I know I will have to raise my level against Luke. If I play like I did today I will be slaughtered. But I will make sure I am ready. I will be awake from the start and much more alert. It's a match I'm definitely looking forward to."
