Race to the World Grand Prix hots up with seven tournaments to go

The race for the 2024 World Grand Prix continues this weekend with the Flanders Darts Trophy in Antwerp. From September 6 to 8, the Antwerp Expo will host this year's 10th European Tour event, with the sport's biggest names competing on Belgian soil for the £30,000 top prize.

With four Players Championship events and three European Tour events to go before the cutoff on Sept. 30, many players are still in the running to qualify for the unique event in which legs must also be started with a double.

The World Grand Prix will take place Oct. 7-13 at the Mattioli Arena in Leicester, where 32 players will compete for a major title. The top-16 in the world rankings and the top-16 in the Pro Tour rankings will be invited.

Defending champion Luke Humphries leads the field of participants. Big names such as Michael Smith, Michael van Gerwen, Nathan Aspinall, Gerwyn Price, Peter Wright, Dimitri van den Bergh and Danny Noppert are also currently in the top-16 of the world rankings.

Through the Pro Tour rankings, Gary Anderson, Luke Littler, Daryl Gurney, Gian van Veen and Raymond van Barneveld, among others, are already assured of participation. For now, Cameron Menzies, Joe Cullen, James Wade and Mike de Decker, among others, are also on the right side of the line, but certainly the last three names are by no means certain of qualification yet.
