Among them is James Wade who eased past Jason Lowe 6-1 with one of the best averages of the weekend so far in 111.2 as 'The Machine' begins to produce some brilliance.

The same can be said for Glen Durrant who hit 102 in defeating Connor Scott who was brought in to make up the numbers and played well in his first round.

Dirk van Duijvenbode has been one of the standouts so far this season on the Players Championship series and this continues as he saw off Jose De Sousa 6-4 with a 104 average.

There were also impressive wins for St Helens pair Michael Smith and Dave Chisnall. Ian White, Peter Wright and Rob Cross are also successfully through.

This round also saw Rowby-John Rodriguez who due to having to catch a flight home suddenly gave up the match with Stephen Bunting receiving a bye as a result.

Maik Kuivenhoven also succumbed to the curse of beating a big name and after seeing off Michael van Gerwen, he lost out to Gavin Carlin with the latter only averaging 79.
