The opening semi-final of this years' Premier League Darts has been set with Michael van Gerwen set to face Dimitri van den Bergh later this evening in Belfast.
Both wins perhaps ripped up the form book slightly with Van den Bergh starting the evening easing past Jonny Clayton in a 6-2 win with a solid return to the Premier League for the Dreammaker.
He had to come from 2-1 down though to do it with Van den Bergh breaking at 3-2 and completing a run of four legs on the spin with an 81 and double 14 for the win. This defying a 101 average from 'The Ferret' with a 99 mark from Van den Bergh with 54.5% on the doubles.
While in a repeat of their World final, Van Gerwen showed his first signs of form of the season after losing early in Copenhagen with jet lag and then lack of preparation at the Masters halting his progress.
But he saw off World Number One and World Champion, Michael Smith in a 6-3 win averaging 102 with two 180's and 50% on the doubles.
Van Gerwen produced the vital shots at the vital moments as he went 2-1 up with a 112 checkout and broke at 4-2 to keep control of the tie.
He went one away from there with a 76 checkout and wired a match dart to make it even more comfortable. But in the end, a 13-darter on double 16 claimed it for the Green Machine.
