Ross Smith superb in whitewash win over home hope Rupprecht, Williams dents Henderson's European Tour return

European Champion Ross Smith is through to the second round at the European Darts Open in Leverkusen as he showed his credentials in a brutal whitewash win over home hope Pascal Rupprecht.

Fans were singing the name of the debutant but 'Smudger' soon paid heed to that with a 100.2 average as an out-of-sorts Joe Cullen now awaits.

As well as the ton topping average, he was also near flawless on the outer ring with 6/8 on the doubles and sealed it in style with a 130 checkout on the bull to silence the home crowd.

John Henderson now plies his trade on the Challenge Tour for the first time in his career and can play the Associate Member qualifier. But unlike Andy Boulton earlier, he did not move through to the second round.

Jim Williams who continues to get better proved superior in a 6-2 win with a 94 average, two 180's and a high checkout of 112 with his doubling proving the difference. He now faces Dave Chisnall tomorrow.
