Ryan Searle in top form going into UK Open: ''Players will want to avoid me in the draw''

Ryan Searle is among the outsiders for the title at the UK Open after a strong start to the Pro Tour season. 'Heavy Metal' has already been in three Pro Tour finals in 2024.

The first two finals were lost, but in the final of Players Championship 3 it was still a hit for Searle, who managed to win in the final match over his practice partner and friend Gary Anderson.

"I'm playing well. I'm confident and I think players will want to avoid me in the draw,'' Searle told pdc.tv ahead of the start of the UK Open.

"I started the season really well. My averages have gone up, my finishing is really good and the new darts are going well. I think my results and performances in recent weeks show that I am one of the form players and I feel that if I play my game, I can beat anyone.''

Meanwhile, the 36-year-old Englishman already stands at five ranking titles. Only on television the last few years things have not been going so well for Searle. ''I played pretty well on television last year, but of course it doesn't help when you keep running into Luke Humphries in the last sixteen,'' he joked. ''Sometimes it just goes that way, and this season I want to break through more on the biggest stage."
